Saturday football (with contributions from North Bank)

So the international break is over and we’re back to the Premier League coalface. Will this weekend see the season’s first managerial casualty? Thanks to North Bank for his comments and predictions.


MANCHESTER CITY vs LIVERPOOL
A tasty hors d’oeuvre to the weekend’s footballing menu, and an early top of the table six-pointer. Both teams have made a strong start to the season and both will view this with expectation of picking up valuable points and denying same to the opposition. This could and should be a real cracker, with home advantage the tipping point. Home win.

NORTH BANK: Pick of the weekend's fixtures, apart from ours of course. City always seem a bit flaky and Liverpool have a new lease of life this season – but City should be looking to win this game and I believe they will. Just. 2-1


ARSENAL vs AFC BOURNEMOUTH
Could this be a battle of Arsenal managers present and future? The burden of expectation is fully on Arsene Wenger today and growing sections of the Emirates crowd will be waiting to pounce on anything but a convincing Gunners performance. They’re in for disappointment, you feel, as Wenger will deliver and live to fight another day. Home win.

NORTH BANK: The sort of game that keeps Wenger in a job. Arsenal are flat track bullies that can beat the rest, but can't live with the best. 3-1


BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION vs WEST BROMWICH ALBION
It’s hard to feel enthusiasm for anything involving West Brom these days. Yes, they’ve made a good start to the season, but they’ve become one of those teams that everyone has to play, whether they like it or (more usually) not. I want Brighton to win, but they won’t. Uninspiring draw.

NORTH BANK: Fucking dull game. 0-1


EVERTON vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Given their summer investment, you’d be forgiven for expecting Everton to jump out of the blocks this season. In mitigation, they’ve had a tough series of fixtures and today’s encounter with Spurs, who have the same number of points, may just depend on home advantage. A pre-match tipple for Wayne Rooney may drive the Toffees to a hard-fought draw.

NORTH BANK: Hmm, tough one to predict this. Everton are wannabes and Spurs are just cunts. 2-2


LEICESTER CITY vs CHELSEA
Chelsea won’t relinquish their Premier League crown without a fight, which today sees them visiting the preceding champions, now in reduced circumstances. A routine result from a routine fixture. Away win.

NORTH BANK: The last two seasons’ Champions meet for this fixture. They both denied those cunts Spurs, but even so there's nothing to like about this fixture. 1-2


SOUTHAMPTON vs WATFORD
Both teams on five points after a decent start to the season. It will be interesting to see what kind of reception Virgil van Dyke gets if he plays today. This season will be a real test for Marco Silva and an opportunity to show that what he almost succeeded in doing with Hull last year was no flash in the pan. He’ll have his work cut out, though. Home win.

NORTH BANK: Another snooze fest. Seriously, who gives a fuck about this fixture? I don't. 1-0


STOKE CITY vs MANCHESTER UNITED
After all’s said and done, perhaps it’s arrogance that’s the distinguishing attribute of a successful manager? It’s a quality that neither Louis van Gaal nor David Moyes were keen to display, but Jose Mourinho has it in the same measure as Fergie. And some would say that he’s on the verge of restoring Man Utd’s supremacy in English football. The more wistful and oft vexed Mark Hughes may wish to take a leaf from his opponent’s book. Because he’ll need it. Away win.

NORTH BANK: Now this one I like. Stoke are always tough to beat at their place and Man U have got the air of preening peacocks who have their arrogance back. Stoke will ruffle their feathers, but all for nothing. 0-2

I bet Oxlade-Chamberlain feels a proper cunt. His last game, for Arsenal, he loses 4-0 against Liverpool, then his 1st game, for the scousers, he loses 5-0. I would feel proper gutted if I were him.

Just watched the Brighton v Baggies highlights. People had better not underestimate Brighton this season. Watford are another side that's improved under a capable manager. It's not easy to predict the worst three teams in the PL with so many changed sides.
West Brom will no doubt concentrate on corners and set pieces in training this week having the might of West Ham to overcome on Saturday.(haha)

Stoke have played well here and deservedly level.
Working hard and well organised (we should try that) and in Jese and Shaqiri they have a bit of skill and magic.
But who the hell is Choupo-Moting?
Must be good as he made 'Englands best defender' Phil Jones look silly.

Stoke showing some fight. Something we rarely see. Bought well with the players they have got in.

Fletcher in midfield would have been great for us. Not a fancy dan but a real worker.

We are well behind the likes of Stoke these days :-(

Heard a bit of the end of Everton's game. Depressing day for them , well beaten and saying 0-3 was flattering for them
Watford up to 4th under Marco Silva. Good appointment by them.

Tried a quick Google, didn't the answer but found that one team finished in its national top division with -2 points.

Chernomorets Burgas Sofia actually got a draw in the Bulgarian top league, 2006-7, but had three points deducted for not having enough youth team players on its books.

Gives us something to beat...
